TRUST OPEN MEETING

The Trust  held an open meeting on Tuesday, March 29th,  to discuss ideas for the future. Most people agreed that we need to offer more benefit to members. We would all like to arrange regular Fans Forums at the club where we have a chance to ask Dave Jones and some players questions. We held a very successful question and answer session with Tg and Dave before Christmas and we will be asking the club to make players available for another event. We will also be arranging an end of season event for Trust members and are working on the details of this.

I think we need to continue to grow our membership to the Trust on a month by month basis. In a crisis I am sure everyone would want a strong Trust, however ,with the City doing well in the Championship and with some sensible financial management at the club we need to be realistic about how many new members we can regularly sign up. Having said that we will be looking to improve on our ‘offer’ to members. Some of the ideas included more member only events, a member only section to the website, an annual card and Trust badge and the like. All great ideas.

At the moment we have a core group of people running the quizzes, band nights and community projects that the Trust organises. A greater number of open meetings are planned this year in order to ensure good communication of these Trust activities and to encourage people to become more involved. There was some discussion too about holding events outside Cardiff.  The Trust has had a couple of great evenings in Maesteg and Pontypridd and we are looking to organise something with the 1927 club in London. The Trust’s emphasis when holding events will naturally be in Cardiff because that is where the majority of fans reside but we are open to all invitations from other areas to participate in and help organise events in their areas.
It was good to see new faces at the  meeting. Thanks for coming.
C’mon the City!

BUCKET COLLECTION RAISES MORE THAN £1,700 FOR KEENOR STATUE APPEAL

The appeal committee is delighted to announce that we raised £1,710.89 (subject to checking at the bank) from the bucket collection outside the Millennium Stadium before Wales v England.

This was great  considering many of the fans were not Cardiff City supporters or even regular Wales fans. We were allocated three of the stadium’s Gates – 5,6 and 7 – to collect from.

Thanks to the volunteers who made the event such a success, to those that generously chipped in cash and to the Football Association of Wales for allowing us to hold the bucket collection.

You can still help the appeal by buying one of the 8in figurines of Fred Keenor or the pin badges. You can get further details on purchasing these items by contacting fundraising@ccfctrust.org.

The efforts of everyone mean the kitty stands at over £46,000, well over half-way.

WELL DONE CITY!

The Cardiff City Supporters Trust has congratulated the club on being named Family Club of the Year at last night’s 2011 Football League awards.

The face of Cardiff City has been really changed over recent years and it is great to know that more than 6,000 of our supporters now enjoy our games sitting in the Family Stand.

Trust Chair Tim Hartley said, “We really appreciate the hard work the club has put in to make Cardiff a truly family club. They went out and consulted parents and children to find out what they wanted. They then came up with a whole range of ideas to make match days extra special for families. The face painting, play stations, player visits and all the other activities have made Cardiff the most welcoming place for families to visit. To be recognised like this by the Football League is just fantastic. Many congratulations to Gethin and Julian Jenkins and their team. ”

I’LL BE THERE HITS THE HIGH NOTES FOR KEENOR APPEAL

Sales of The Stand’s record I’ll Be There (With My Little Pick and Shovel) have raised a fantastic £2,000 for the Fred Keenor Statue Fund.

And Merthyr actor Jonathan Owen says more cash is to come in when proceeds from download sales are counted.

Jonny, star of the hit film A bit of Tom Jones, who teamed up with Super Furry Animals guitarist Guto Pryce and Owen Powell of Catatonia fame, were joined by  drummers Ryan Richards and Gareth Lawrence, from Welsh bands Funeral for a Friend and Blackout, to record a version of the terrace favourite at the Monnow Studios in Rockfield, Monmouth last year.

Former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable, who had been a driving force for the fundraiser, sadly died before the song was recorded.

The £2,000 means the fund has now passed the half-way target. More than £44,000 has now been raised towards the £85,000 tribute to Wales skipper and the captain of Cardiff City’s 1927 FA Cup winning team.

Jonny Owen said: “We’re absolutely delighted to help the fund in any way. I’d been told that it’s practically impossible to make any money on a single these days but we managed it! It also helped in younger people becoming aware of Fred Keenor, Cardiff City’s greatest ever player.

“We’ll keep helping with all money raising aspects and again would like to say that the people involved in the fund continue to inspire us with their Herculean effort in trying to get it erected at our ground. God bless them for that!’

David Craig, Fred Keenor Appeal project manager and a Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust Board member, said: “This is brilliant news. Jonny and the lads put in a huge amount of effort. It’s also not just about the amount they raised, which is great, but the huge profile the record has given the appeal.

“We cannot thank them enough for what they have done and it shows how committed City fans are to seeing this statue erected at the Cardiff City Stadium. And I want to thank everyone that board a record, CD or download for their great support.

“There is no let up for the appeal. We have been given permission to hold a collection at Gates 5, 6 and 7 before the Wales v England game at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday and we ask fans going to the match to be as generous as possible. We also have a race night organised for next month.”
