Trust calls for new era between Cardiff City and its fans

Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust today called for a new era between the football club and its supporters in the wake of the return to blue.

Chairman Tim Hartley said:

“The decision of the owner Vincent Tan to restore our club’s traditional colours now opens the way to building a new relationship between the football club and its supporters.

“The last two-and-a-half years have shown that meaningful dialogue and engagement between the club and its supporters is essential as we move forward. We are meeting club executives next month and hope that this will mark the beginning of a new era.

“Members have already been discussing the new club badge. It is important that the crest is acceptable to the fans and the club and that supporters are given a real say on options for a new badge. There is also a need to discuss further the issue of conversion of debt to equity.

“Mr Tan has mooted the idea of  a supporter representative on the club’s board. The Chairman, Mehmet Dalman, talked of greater fan involvement last week. We have seen what a success having a Supporter Trust director  on the board has been at Swansea City and we would like to see a democratically elected representative on Cardiff City’s board.

“We love our football club and deeper and more meaningful supporter engagement will be of huge benefit to the club and fans.

“The UK Government has set up its Expert Group on Football which is looking at fan ownership and at giving fans a much stronger voice in the running of their clubs. These issues are moving up the political agenda with major parties proposing greater supporter involvement before the General Election.

“I urge the club to make the most of the new relationship with supporters after last week’s return to blue and the Trust looks forward to working together in the best interests of Cardiff City.”

Tŷ Hafan thanks Trust for its support

A message from Tŷ Hafan to Trust chair, Tim Hartley, after members helped in a bucket collection at the Cardiff City Stadium

Hi Tim

I just wanted to say a quick thank you for yesterday.  The support we have had from the Trust has been outstanding and we really appreciate your support.

Please pass on my thanks to all of the Trust members who gave up their time to collect for us on Saturday.  I’m looking forward to getting the money counted this week to find out how much we made.

And congratulations for finally going back to blue!  I’m sure that the Tŷ Hafan blue shirts must have helped the cause significantly

Best wishes

Bluebirds!

A message of thanks from Trust chair Tim Hartley

I would like to thank everyone who has kept the faith and supported the protracted campaign to return to blue. The Trust has been very proud to work alongside all the groups who wanted a return to our traditional colours and crest and together we have achieved this. Well done everyone.

I hope today’s announcement will reunite the club with us the supporters so that everyone can move forward together. Yes, we are grateful to Vincent Tan for returning our club to blue so let’s ensure a massive turnout tomorrow to celebrate our history and traditions being restored.

The last 24 hours has highlighted the vital importance of regular, formal dialogue between football clubs and their supporters. We hope the club embrace this opportunity so that we can all move forward together in support of the Bluebirds.

Blue is BACK:

The Trust issued the following statement today after the club announced a return to blue at home.

Tim Hartley, chair of Cardiff City Supporters Trust, said: “This is blue letter day for Cardiff City and its fans. It reunites the club and its supporters so everyone can move forward together.

“We’re very grateful to Vincent Tan for returning our club to blue and hope supporters will turn out in very large numbers and wearing blue to celebrate.

“I’d love to see a carnival atmosphere at the Cardiff City Stadium with every fan getting behind the team and cheering them to victory against Fulham. Let’s fill the stadium.

“This whole episode has highlighted the vital importance of regular dialogue between football clubs and their supporters and we hope the club embrace that in the months and years ahead. As supporters we have the best interests of the club we love at heart and our views need to be taken into account.”

Supporters’ Meeting with the Club

Thanks to everyone who answered our appeal for questions to the club ahead of tonight’s meeting. I have sent a summary of all the responses to the club and to the Chairman, Mehmet Dalman. It is clear from the replies we received that the issues Trust members would like to be discussed are:

1) The rebrand – playing colours and crest

2) The conversion of Vincent Tan’s debt to equity

3) Season Ticket prices for the 2015-2016 season

4) An elected fans’ representative on the club board

5) A structured relationship and communication with fans

I have suggested to all those attending tonight that we focus on the first two issues as they have been uppermost in most supporters’ minds for the whole of this season. This meeting is an opportunity for the club to properly engage with fans and we look forward to playing our part in returning Cardiff City to playing in blue at the earliest opportunity.
