Any Trust members who were unable to collect their tickets for the above event before the derby game can pick them up on the night from the reception at the Cardiff City Stadium. Trust members will be there to hand them out.

Tickets are free to members and any member that has not booked but wants to attend should email members@ccfctrust.org as soon as possible to confirm their place.

Tickets for non-members are £7 but those joining the Trust on the night only have to pay another £5. A real bargain.

The excellent The Journey Back, Cardiff City’s rise through the divisions from 1991-2003, will also be on sale at £19.50 or £17.50 for Trust members – another reason to join the Trust.

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay this afternoon officially unveiled a blue plaque dedicated to Fred Keenor at the school where he was a pupil.

Malky spoke about the achievements of the hero of the 1927 FA Cup winning team, who attended Stacey Primary School in Roath, where he captained the school team.

Club officials also brought along the Championship trophy won by the Bluebirds last season and Malky posed for photographs and signed autographs.

Fred Keenor project manager David Craig, who is a board member of Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust, spoke at the unveiling along with John Dixon, who chairs the governors at Stacey.

Representatives of Fred’s family attended the event, along with members of the Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust and parents.

David Craig said: “Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust would like to thank Malky for giving up his time to unveil the plaque. I know everyone at Stacey, both pupils and teachers, were excited to see Malky.

“I’d also like to thank the club for bringing the Championship trophy along and to head-teacher Jo Colsey and her marvellous staff for their support. It was a great occasion.”

The money to pay for the blue-style plaque came from the remaining proceeds of the Keenor statue appeal. After its purchase David Craig said there would just enough left in the appeal to pay for the statue’s first annual clean and overhaul.

More than 80 copies of The Journey Back – Cardiff City’s Rise through the Divisions 1991-2013, a book chronicling seasons 1991-92 to 2012-13 were sold before and after the Swansea game.

Authors and Trust members Paul Evans (the Other Bob Wilson) and Richard Holt sold the book and signed copies for fans. It has 368 pages plus another 16 pages of colour photographs, including team groups for 18 of the 22 seasons covered.

The book can be bought from the Trust Office (near Gate 5) before the Manchester United and Arsenal games and, hopefully, at the Wales v Finland match on Saturday, November 16, while it will also be on sale at the Trust’s 1992-93 promotion celebration event https://www.ccfctrust.org/?p=3181 at Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday, November 21.

The blue plaque which will be unveiled at Fred Keenor’s old school

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay is to unveil a blue plaque a week today at the city school where the legendary Fred Keenor  was a pupil.

Fred Keenor captained the football team at Stacey Primary School in Roath. He went on to skipper the Bluebirds to FA Cup Final success in 1927, as well as captaining the Welsh international side.

The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, November 12,  almost a year to the day (November 10, 2012) after the statue of Fred Keenor at the Cardiff City Stadium was unveiled by two pupils from Stacey school, Carla Shore and Yassin Mohamed.

Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust had launched an appeal to raise £85,000 for the tribute.

David Craig, project manager of the Keenor appeal and a member of Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust board, said: “We had funds left over after the statue was erected so we felt it would be entirely appropriate to provide an inscribed blue plaque dedicated to Fred for the school.

“We are thrilled that Malky Mackay is happy to take time out from his busy schedule to unveil the plaque to honour Fred. We are sure the pupils are looking forward to welcoming a modern day Bluebirds hero in Malky Mackay to their school.

“This event is the conclusion of the work by the Trust’s Fred Keenor fundraising committee to mark the legendary status of Fred.”
