The Trust has welcomed the Labour Party’s proposals to give football fans a bigger say in the running of clubs – if they win the next UK General Election.
Trust chair Tim Hartley said: “I welcome Labour’s commitment to ensuring fans have a real role in owning and running their clubs.
“In Wales we understand what a vital role football clubs play in our communities. Swansea. Merthyr, Wrexham and Newport have shown how successful clubs which share ownership willingly with supporters’ trusts can be.
“These proposals again underline the need for a formal role for supporters and real transparency in football to be embedded in law.
“We look forward to other political parties coming forward with proposals aimed at ensuring that the views of the fans are properly considered when discussions are taking place about major changes at clubs and issues like ticket prices.
“There are millions of pounds more coming into football through TV deals but the price of football keeps going up. That doesn’t make sense. Fans have been marginalised for far too long by many clubs and owners and that needs to end.”
