BRING A POUND TO THE GROUND AND MORE

Cardiff City has offered the Fred Keenor Statue Fund Appeal the opportunity to hold a bucket collection before the Championship play-off clash against Reading next Tuesday.

The most recent collection at the Wales v England game raised more than £1,700 and the appeal committee is urging Bluebirds fans to…Bring a Pound to the Ground – And More!

Statue Fund project manager David Craig has asked for City fans to volunteer to hold a bucket from 6.15pm until 5-10 minutes before kick-off in the big game.

If you can help, please email fundraising@ccfctrust.org.

David Craig said: “We really appreciate that the club has given us permission to hold a collection at such a high profile game.

“We want to hear from volunteers willing to hold a bucket and also urge those who have helped in the past to contact us again.

“Football fans were enormous generous when we held our last collection and we are sure they will again dig deep in their pockets.

“We are getting close to the £50,000 mark and hope that this collection will tip us over on our way to the £85,000 target.”

  • Donations to the appeal fund can be made through the Co-operative Bank:

TG MEETS KEENOR FUND-RAISERS

City chairman TG (Datum Chan Tien Ghee) kindly took time to meet members of the Fred Keenor Statue Fund Committee who were collecting for the appeal on Level 4 before the Middlesborough game.

TG was presented with a miniature of the statue which will eventually be erected outside the stadium in honour of Fred Keenor and the rest of the 1927 FA Cup winning team.

CITY FANS AND CHASETOWN BUILD LINKS

Friendship in football was the order of the day when the Trust and the Supporters’ Club hosted our friends from Chasetown Football Club before the Middlesborough game.

The group of more than 70 from the Midlands football club, including the club chairman, manager and players, said they had enjoyed a fantastic day – apart from the result!

Cardiff City kindly provided tickets for the game while the Trust and Supporters’ Club laid on the hospitality at the Duke of Clarence pub in Canton. Landlord Eric Harmer organised skittles and table football for our guests.

At half-time Chasetown presented their hosts with a signed framed shirt. In response Vince Alm, on behalf of the Supporters’ Club, presented a signed shirt while the Trust gave Chasetown representatives a framed photograph of the new stadium. A Friendship in Football was presented by our friends John Franklin and Trevor Youngmans from Chasetown the Supporters’ Club.

And a representative from Chasetown was also given the honour of making the 50-50 draw.

UPDATE: Trust End of Season Party

The Trust will hold its first end of season party on Friday June 10th at the Duke of Clarence on Clive Road, Canton.

The party will be free to all members and in addition to this all members will be able to bring along a guest free of charge too. Any further guests will be charged £3 however this can be reimbursed against membership if they join on the night.

The end of season party will start at 7pm with a quiz which should last about an hour and a half. The quiz will then be followed by a buffet (hot dogs, burgers – all very healthy J and there will be a vegetarian option available too).

At approximately 9:30pm after the buffet there will be an ex-players discussion themed on the Real Madrid match but basically it will be a chat hosted by Rob Phillips (a great supporter of the Trust) about playing in the seventies which I can assure you, having already spoken with many of the guys coming along, will be very interesting.

The line up at the moment is:

Gary Bell

Don Murray

Leighton Phillips

David Giles

With both Richie Morgan and Steve Derrett to confirm w/c May 9th.
Please let me know if you would like to attend as numbers will be limited. E-mail me at help@ccfctrust.org and I can reserve your place/s. Tickets will be sent out a week before the event and this will also entitle members to entry in a free draw.

In case any members cannot attend due to where you live or holidays DO NOT worry – as all members will be entered into a draw at the end of the season party and the winner will receive a signed shirt.

Thank you for your continued support

Tracey
