“Penarth Kev” – Trust Member RIP

“Penarth Kev” was a trust member and this is a tribute to him from our membership secretary Paul Evans:

“I never met the person who posted on the Cardiff City Online messageboard as “Penarth Kev”, but, over the years I came to regard him as a friend, so the news of his untimely death yesterday at the age of only 52 came as a complete shock. Kev was known mainly for his superb “Deep in the Bowels of the CCS” series of messages which were his light hearted take on how meetings between manager Dave Jones and former Chairman Peter Ridsdale concerning newsworthy events at the club might have gone. Here is a link to one of Kev’s “Deep in the Bowels” messages. I didn’t select that one because it was the best or most memorable of the series, the truth is, they were all very enjoyable as far as I am concerned and it’s just taken at random – Kev was a very funny man.

Away from his “Deep in the Bowels” series, Kev’s messages often brought humanity, optimism and a much needed sense of perspective to a forum which can get quite heavy and personal at times – my condolences go out to his family and friends.

RIP Kev, there’ll be more laughs heard in heaven from now on.”

TRUST SHOWCASES BANDS AT CANTON GIG

Three upcoming bands and singers will be showcased at a gig organised by Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust’s Community Group in February.

  • Howl Griff, who hail from West Wales. Their second album, The Hum, includes appropriately the catchy song Bluebirds. You can listen to it on their website www.howlgriff.com

  • Barry-based rockers Brother Steve.

  • Folk singer Catrin O’Neill, originally from Aberdyfi and now living in the Vale of Glamorgan.

In addition, DJ PSI will provide music at the gig in the Duke of Clarence pub in Canton, Cardiff, on Friday, February 11, (from 8pm-11.30pm). Admission is just £3.

Iestyn Jones, who has put the line-up together, said: “This is a great chance to listen to some excellent music. If the gig is a success it will help secure future events with, hopefully, some Cardiff bands playing.”

Trust Board member Martin Bale said: “We’d like to thank the artists, DJ PSI, Iestyn and Adam Williams of Community Music Wales for providing their services free of charge.

“Music fans can be assured of a great night at a very affordable cost with all funds raised going towards future Trust community events.”

BUY TO HELP THE TRUST

Just a reminder that fans can help raise funds for the Trust by using a website linking into more than 2,000 of the UK’s biggest retailers such as Marks & Spencer, Amazon and John Lewis.

It won’t cost you a penny extra to shop via https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/good-causes/cardiffcityst/ but the Trust will receive up to 15 per cent from every online purchase made from the website.

Once you’re logged on you shop with the retailer directly and complete your transaction online.

Fans can even help earn the Trust cash by simply using https://cardiffcityst.easysearch.org.uk as their search engine rather Google or Yahoo. In other words, supporters don’t have to buy anything to earn the Trust money.
