The Trust issued the following statement following confirmation of Dave Jones’ departure from Cardiff City:
Tim Hartley, chairman of Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust, said: “We would like to join all fans and thank Dave Jones for his contribution to Cardiff City over a six year period in which the club reached the FA Cup Final and the Championship Play-Offs twice. We wish him well in the future.
“Dave Jones’ departure provides a perfect opportunity to bring in a new, high quality manager who can take Cardiff City onto the next stage – the Premier League. With a large number of players leaving the club at the end of the season, it will allow the new manager the chance to build a team to take the club forward.”
Trust officials are approaching the club for an urgent meeting following the departure 0f Dave Jones.
End of Season Party
Just a reminder that I will be sending out tickets by the end of next week to all those who e-mailed me saying they wanted to come to the end of season party at the Duke of Clarence on Friday June 10th.
The end of season party starts at 7pm with a quiz which should last about an hour and a half. The quiz will then be followed by a buffet (hot dogs, burgers all very healthy and there will be a vegetarian option available too).
At approximately 9:30pm after the buffet there will be an ex-players discussion themed on the Real Madrid match but basically it will be a chat hosted by Rob Phillips (a great supporter of the Trust) about playing in the seventies which I can assure you, having already spoken with many of the guys coming along, will be very interesting.
The line up at the moment is:
Gary Bell
Don Murray
Leighton Phillips
Bobby Woodruff
Steve Derrett
David Giles
If you haven’t let me know yet that you would like to come along don’t worry as there are still a few places left. Please e-mail me at help@ccfctrust.org though as soon as possible so that I can send out your tickets next week too. All members will also be entitled to entry in a free draw.
In case any members cannot attend due to where you live or holidays DO NOT worry as all members will be entered into a draw at the end of the season party and the winner will receive a signed shirt.
Tracey
Brian Mertens joins the board of Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust following the annual meeting.
Also, re-elected were Martin Bale, David Craig, Tim Hartley, Tracey Marsh and Keith Morgan.
Gareth Jones and Phillip Nifield, who have a year to go before they need to seek re-election, are the other board members. You can read information on the board members by clicking on the Meet the Board link at the top of the page.
The annual meeting also approved expenditure on creating a dedicated Trust office at the stadium, which members and fans can call into on match-day. It will be similar to the room occupied by our friends at Cardiff City Supporters Club. More details when everything is finalised.
Despite the massive disappointment of City’s Play-Off defeat against Reading there was at least good news for the Fred Keenor Statue Fund.
For a bucket collection before the Reading game raised £1,207 for the appeal which has now topped the £50,000 mark, including the £15,000 pledged by Cardiff council.
Statue Fund project manager David Craig said: “This was a fantastic effort. We’d like to thank most sincerely the seven volunteers who rattled buckets for us on the night. It is difficult for many people to help out on evening games due to work commitments so we really appreciate it.
“Bluebirds fans are always so generous and full of goodwill for what we are trying to achieve which is the statue of Fred outside the ground. We had donations ranging from a few pence from little children, showing that every little penny counts, to a £20 note – fantastic.
“The amount raised brought a smile to our faces despite the huge disappointment on the night. I’d also like to thank Cardiff City management once again for their continuing support for the appeal.
“The collection took us over the £50,000 mark as we move towards the £85,000 target,” added David.
